Inspection bodies perform assessments on behalf of private organizations or authorities with the goal of providing information about the conformity of inspected items against stakeholder specifications, which may include regulations, documentary standards, specifications, inspection schemes, or contracts. Inspections include the examination of materials, products, installations, plants, processes, work procedures, or services against these requirements, with subsequent reporting of results of these activities to appropriate stakeholders. They can be performed at any stage, from design to inspection, and may cover testing and calibration activities (see ISO/IEC 17025). This course is a comprehensive review of the requirements of ISO/IEC 17020:2026. The participant will gain an understanding of conformity assessment principles and inspection practices, along with the elements of the standard (including but not limited to):- Type A and Type non-A Inspection Bodies
- Impartiality and independence
- Competency management
- Identification and monitoring of risks and opportunities
- Inspection process, including sampling
- Quality management elements (documented information, internal audits, management reviews)

Prerequisites
While there are no formal prerequisites for this workshop, participants will benefit most if they have:
- A basic understanding of inspection activities or conformity assessment concepts
- Familiarity with quality management system principles (e.g., document control, records, corrective action)
- Experience working within or alongside an inspection body, laboratory, certification body, or regulatory program
Prior experience with ISO/IEC standards (such as ISO/IEC 17020, ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17065, or ISO 9001) is helpful but not required.

2. Identify the documents and records required;
3. Model the steps in the Accreditation Process;
4. Analyze scenarios to determine conformance with requirements from the standard; and
5. Recognize and summarize the international MRA requirements that affect accredited inspection bodies
