Measurement Uncertainty provides a practical introduction to internationally accepted methods for evaluating and expressing the doubt associated with a reported result. Based on the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM), the course explains how relevant sources are identified, quantified, combined, and communicated to support technically valid and internationally comparable results.
Participants learn to develop mathematical models, identify contributors, distinguish between Type A and Type B evaluations, select appropriate probability distributions, and apply sensitivity coefficients. The course also addresses standard and combined standard values, effective degrees of freedom, coverage factors, expanded uncertainty, and the preparation of practical budgets.
Rather than emphasizing mathematical complexity, the course helps learners understand the purpose of each step in the evaluation process and how a well-supported uncertainty estimate strengthens confidence in the final result.
